Recently, I was asked to serve as a Trustee for the Maryland State Democratic Party. I was honored to accepted that appointment. The Democratic Party meets several times a year to discuss the agenda of democrats in the state of Maryland. They also, among other issues, work on ways of getting voters out to the polls on election day. |

I would like to acknowledge David McCord and Rich Murphy for coordinating another successful JATC Graduation which was held at Martins Crosswinds on Saturday, June 2. Everything went off without a hitch, and we were proud to graduate 77 apprentices. See below for more photos of the graduation. |

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who participated in the Local Union elections by seeking office, serving as election judge, tellers, and those who took the time to vote and return ballots. It is with your continuing support and participation that Local 26 remains strong. I recently visited one of the most interesting projects in the metro area, the Wilson Bridge Project. Pictured below with me is Business Agent, Steve Zimmerman, and Brother Hermitt “MO” Mosley. MO has done an incredible job serving as Steward on this very difficult project and, with his efforts, this job has progressed smoothly. We all too often take for granted the great work that Stewards in Local 26 perform, so take time to thank the Steward on your job. Don’t forget the upcoming Local picnics: July 14, 2007 for Roanoke and August 4, 2007 for the Washington area. You will have a great time with your family and enjoy the opportunity to visit with your brothers and sisters. |

Greetings, Brothers and Sisters! The summer weather is finally upon us. Those of us who have been around the Washington, DC area for a while know what that means - long, hot and muggy days. So make sure you dress accordingly and stay hydrated. I encourage our members who are Foremen and Stewards to make a concerted effort to make sure “. . . that on all jobs sites safe, cooled drinking water is provided at all times. . .” (excerpt from Article IV, Section 4.19 of the Inside Wireman Agreement). I have tried to include a quote in most of my articles. Here is one from Theodore Hesburgh, former President of the University of Notre Dame: “People don’t make decisions because they are easy; or because they are cheap; or because they are popular; they make them because they are right”. In other words, separate the clutter or fluff surrounding the situation or circumstance from the “bare” facts. Then weigh any historical or performance matters relevant to the situation or circumstance and, hopefully, you’ll make the right decision. I believe, and I think most of you would agree, that deep down inside we all want to do what is right. Have a safe and enjoyable summer. I’ll see you either at the monthly meeting or one of our picnics (Clarksburg or Roanoke). We (the Business Office) have a standing call for dedicated members who would like to volunteer some of their time, get involved and help strengthen our Local! The Minority Coalition meets at 6:00 p.m. on the 2nd Friday, right before the General Membership Meeting. Plan on attending. |
